Barbara Rogofff

Barbara Rogoff es Profesora Distinguida de Psicología en la UCSC Foundation de la Universidad de California, Santa Cruz. Su investigación se centra en los aspectos culturales del aprendizaje infantil y en cómo las comunidades organizan oportunidades de aprendizaje. Ha documentado formas especialmente sofisticadas de colaboración y atención entre niños y niñas de comunidades indígenas de las Américas.

Ha sido reconocida con el Distinguished Lifetime Contributions Award, otorgado por la Society for Research in Child Development y el Chemers Award for Outstanding Research, otorgado por UCSC. Es miembro electa de la Academia Estadounidense de Artes y Ciencias y de la Academia Nacional de Educación de EE. UU., además de miembro de prestigiosas asociaciones como la American Anthropological Association (AAA), la Association for Psychological Science (APS), la American Psychological Association (APA) y la American Educational Research Association (AERA).

Ha ocupado la Cátedra Presidencial de la Universidad de California y ha sido becaria del Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, la Fundación Kellogg, la Fundación Spencer y el Exploratorium. También fue editora de la revista Human Development.

Barbara Rogoff is UCSC Foundation Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California-Santa Cruz. She investigates cultural aspects of children’s learning and how communities arrange for learning, finding especially sophisticated collaboration and attention among children from Indigenous communities of the Americas.

She received a Distinguished Lifetime Contributions Award (Society for Research in Child Development) and the Chemers Award for Outstanding Research (UCSC). She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Education, and a Fellow of the AAA, APS, APA, and AERA.

She has held the University of California Presidential Chair and Fellowships of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Kellogg Foundation, Spencer Foundation, and the Exploratorium, and served as Editor of Human Development.

Her recent books have received major awards: Learning Together (finalist for the Maccoby Award, APA); The Cultural Nature of Human Development (APA William James Book Award); and Developing Destinies: A Mayan Midwife and Town (Maccoby Award, APA). Recent volumes include Learning by Observing and Pitching In to Family and Community Endeavors and Children Learn by Observing and Contributing to Family and Community Endeavors.
